School hours are:
Morning Session 8:50 am to 11:20 am
Afternoon Session 12:50 pm to 3:20 pm
**Lunch Program** 11:30 am -12:50 pm
Classroom doors will open at 8:50 am and 12:50 pm.
Children will get name tags at the orientation. Name tags will be kept at school.
Send children in play clothes and runners or rubber-soled shoes (please label shoes, coats, boots and backpacks, hats, mittens and scarves. Discreet initials are fine.) The younger children are often confused about what belongs to them.
When weather permits outdoor shoes are fine as long as they are neither wet nor muddy.
Children should be toilet trained. Please speak directly to the Director, Karlin Mann, regarding your child's specific circumstances. Send an extra pair of clothes (top, bottoms, underwear & socks) labelled and in a ziplock bag for incidents and accidents. Clothes that slide up and down easily help with the bathroom routine. Extra clothes are also helpful for spills and other accidents.
Our classroom temperature is unpredictable. Layered clothing is recommended.
Easy to maneuver and fair sized backpacks (please label) are handy for art, shoes (in winter months), show & tell (p.m. only), and that special blankie that just can’t stay at home some days.
Parking on Oak Street or Kingsway and using Oak Street Entrance or the north door from the outdoor play area is our preference for drop-off and pick-up of the children. Loading Zone parking is fine with blinkers on. Please do not park in handicapped parking and there is no parking in the back lane.
At dismissal, the classroom doors will open at 11:20 & 3:20.
Children will be almost dressed and ready to go.
Please wait until the doors open to pick up the children unless pre-arranged.
Please be prompt.
*Early pick-up. If your child is being picked up early we will have his/her clothes ready and waiting outside the classroom doors to simplify pick-up.

FOODS AND NUTRiTION
A daily snack is provided during each session and consists of two of the four food groups.
Allergies are posted for teachers and we try to avoid those foods. Children with epi-pen allergies must be provided with allergy safe foods by their parents. They are not served foods from the school.
Sending a snack or part of the snack for the class, especially the day you are volunteering is a welcome gesture, but not an obligation. However, your contribution does keep our costs down.
Check with us before if possible, if its last minute and a special need of your child, by all means we are very flexible. We prefer healthy snacks such as “fresh cut vegetables” as opposed to sugary or high fat snacks.
We have a water cooler and reusable plastic glasses for the children’s use.
We offer an optional and limited lunch program. Please contact the director directly for lunch program options.

ILLNESS
Please keep children home if they have flu-like symptoms, are at the beginning of a cold or if feverish.
You will be called to pick up your child if they are ill.

EASY TRANSITIONS & INCLUSION
A note will be sent home re: show and tell (afternoons only). Try and keep personal toys and gadgets at home as they have a way of disappearing. Children are encouraged at circle time to talk about what’s important to them – it builds confidence and promotes self-worth.
SEPARATION ANXIETY. If your child feels insecure the first few days you are able to stay for a while. However, we do prefer you to say good-bye, reassuring them you will be waiting when it’s time to go home. Prolonged good-byes make separation difficult for both parent and child. If we see that there is going to be a problem we will ask you to stay and certainly if your child becomes upset we will phone you to come to school. If you reassure your child you will be waiting for them at the end of class, and by NOT asking them if they want you to stay (because they will say yes) their first days of school will be a happy adventure. Talk to a teacher if you have any concerns.
If you’re in a carpool, wait until the 2nd or 3rd week of school to avoid anxiety in some children. We will try to help with the formation of carpools. Let us know if you require assistance at your first visit.
Please try not to distribute birthday invitations at school. This causes hurt feelings or a feeling of confusion in the children. If you must distribute the invitations, please give them to a teacher to do so. We will do it as discreetly as possible.
