Environment

We have two large, bright beautiful rooms (approximately 1700 sq. ft.) with all the latest equipment on the upper floor, plus a full, well equipped, gym in the basement of St. Andrew’s United Church.  We also have an outside play-yard at the side of the building that we may use from time to time.

We designed our classrooms so they are an inviting environment.  We learn and listen with all our senses.  We have many different interest centers that allow children to learn separately & together.  Some remain the same all year; some come & go – pertaining to the current interest.

Routine

Our day is broken down into a daily schedule or programmed sequence.  Opening circle, work time, music time, clean-up, snack, circle time, gym & time to prepare to go home are all part of the day.  We provide a balanced snack to the children daily.  Children’s allergies and food sensitivities are managed in our snack preparation.  Our schedule is posted outside our door on a daily basis for parents to see and read.

Unit Themes

Our themes are relevant to the children; some are built in by time of the year (season & holidays).  They last approximately one week and their content has appropriate activities incorporating concepts that are theme related.  They are enhanced by pictures, stories, music, art, poems, books, and concrete materials which stimulate interest & encourage discussion.  We incorporate into our theme teaching components that include math, language, music, art, science, literature and poetry.
